Retail workers gear up for new fight over trading hours

Thousands of retail and warehouse workers across New South Wales will lose
much-needed time with family and friends if the O’Farrell Government goes ahead with plans to extend retail trading hours.

More than 500 delegates of the Shop, Distributive and Allied Employees’ Association, representing tens of thousands of members from across the state, gathered in Sydney earlier this month in a united stand to protect their right to enjoy Boxing Day, Good Friday, Easter Sunday and other special days with their families and friends.

The workers were concerned by recent media reports that the Abbott Government will seek agreement from the Council of Australian Governments for extended retail trading hours across the country.
